Laser Hair Removal Aftercare: What to Do (and Avoid) After Each Session

The days after your laser session matter almost as much as the treatment itself. Here's how to protect your results and your skin.

Laser hair removal works by targeting hair follicles with concentrated light energy, which means the treated skin needs a short window of extra care afterward to heal properly and hold onto your results.

In the first 24–48 hours

Mild redness and warmth around treated hair follicles is normal and typically settles within a day. Avoid hot showers, saunas, and strenuous exercise that raises skin temperature further during this window, and skip any exfoliating products on the treated area.

Sun protection is non-negotiable

Treated skin is temporarily more sensitive to UV exposure. Sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) on treated areas is essential for at least two weeks after each session — sun exposure on freshly treated skin increases the risk of pigmentation changes.

What not to do between sessions

Avoid plucking, waxing, or threading the treated area between sessions. These methods remove the hair from the root, which is exactly what the laser needs to target at your next appointment — shaving is fine and won't interfere with results.

When to expect the next session

Sessions are spaced 4–6 weeks apart deliberately, timed to when the next batch of hair follicles enters an active growth phase. Coming in earlier than that window won't accelerate results, since untreated follicles are still dormant.

If you notice unusual blistering, prolonged redness, or discomfort beyond a couple of days, contact the clinic rather than waiting it out.
