Tattoo removal is a gradual process by design — each laser session breaks down ink particles that your body then clears naturally over the following weeks, which is why sessions are spaced out rather than done back to back.
What determines how many sessions you'll need
Ink density, colour, depth, tattoo age, and its location on your body all matter. Black ink on an older, professionally applied tattoo responds most predictably; greens, light blues, and white are the most stubborn. Tattoos further from the heart clear more slowly (circulation does the clearing). At your consultation you'll get an honest session estimate for your tattoo — commonly six to ten or more — rather than a one-size quote.
What each session involves
After eye protection and, where needed, numbing, the laser passes over the tattoo in minutes — most patients compare the sensation to hot elastic-band snaps. The area may redden, frost, or blister afterward; simple aftercare and sun protection between sessions protect both your skin and the final result. Sessions are spaced six to eight weeks apart to let your body clear the shattered ink.
Honest expectations
Most tattoos fade dramatically; not every tattoo disappears completely. Some leave a faint ghost or subtle texture change, and resistant colours may only partially clear. If your goal is fading for a cover-up rather than full removal, that takes fewer sessions and is a perfectly good plan — say so at the consultation and the course will be sized accordingly.
